La Recessionista

I've been feeling guilty for looking lusting at things so out of budget that I've been trying to find cheaper alternatives. Unfortunately, most of them exist only in d'Amerikas aka my dreams! Vowing never to buy PVC again (if I can help it), the following selections are mostly in leather (except the first two).

This pair of Converse Satin Dance Slip-on Flats are a little pricey at USD7.49 but they are tres me. Run around and never fear of tarnishing them :D I miss having a handy pair of comfy satin ballet flats for when I'm feeling lazy (nearly always).

Just wishing I could throw some money away to buy back these cuuuuuute Pink Rainboots with Green Whales to stare at all day long. Unfortunately, not favourably priced: USD 24.99 !!!!! It also happens that rainboots are a big no-no here, in spite of all the rain : if they were really mine though, I wouldn't care about fashion faux pas! Wearing them would make me happy beamy. Oh gosh, goloshes!

Suede Low-Cut Sneakers from Converse for under 10? Fine, so it's USD but still very well-priced! Awesomeness (y)

Some people may like these Grey Slingback Pumps. They did get good reviews, but aren't really growing much on me. Do check it out, I think it's pretty reasonable for USD29.99.

And theeeeese, are my pick! Very simple, basic Heeled Sandals in Tan, a true wardrobe staple! Great for work and casual, a colour that is not often seen amongst the working demographic. Also, with the cut-outs, they hint subtly at gladiator footwear (that is still apparently on-trend).

These brown heeled sandals from Target are a much more affordable version of this and this (both from Urban Outfitters). Who says recessionistas can't be just as chic?

I also came across some Givenchy-inspired Lace-Up Flat Sandals at 'Tarzhay' and also these Christian Louboutin-inspired Textured Orange Lace-Up Pumps on ASOS. ASOS does copy celebrity styles though, because the UK is celebrity/tabloid crazy.

What is your take on "inspired" shoes/bags? Is it "affordable inspirations ftw" or "just because it don't have a logo don't mean it ain't knock-off"? My friend, Andrea, recently revisited this topic! Check out the entry on her fabulous blog here.

I'm sorry for the linky 'shopping' posts, I'm halfway through exams so bear with me a little longer.

Swine flu is da bombz. Friends overseas, please take extra care.

Love,
XXX
