The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

It appears that horror does not really creep me out but crime does.. Even if it's fiction, I still get freaked out.... (I just finished "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo".) So much for wanting to buy "Our Little Secret", which is based on a true story, complete with photographs of where it took place and of some of the people. Chilling much? Shudders.

The first book of the Millenium trilogy wasn't too bad, actually. I was expecting worse after Brother's warning, especially since it's a translated work. Found the punctuation or lack thereof quite irksome. Didn't quite like the style--switching rather rapidly between different characters' stories within chapters--and the gratuitous copulation/seduction, but got used to it pretty quickly. The former was not quite as cringey as "How Starbucks Saved My Life", and the latter was nowhere near Diana Gabaldon-esque proportions. (Yes, I'm a self-proclaimed, perhaps hypocritical, prude. At least in the sense that if it's well-written or discreetly incorporated, I probably would not have anything against it.) (Or perhaps here it feels less raunchy/trashy than the romance genre, combined with my prejudice acceptance that Swedes are reeeeally easy.........going, if you get what I mean. Like, generally very liberal. Hurrr.) Once you get past the first hundred and fifty pages, the content is actually quite intriguing. If his reviews are anything to go by, I think the subsequent instalments--"The Girl Who Played With Fire") and ("The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest", in that order--might be pretty good.

Fortunately/unfortunately, the second book is with my brother's >1000-degree myopic girlfriend, who presumably does not read at anything close to my rate. Haaaaahahaha. This rate I speak of, it only applies to leisure. Dang! d: anyway, guess I shouldn't be reading for leisure anymore. I open for business tomorrow.... There should must be no more procrastinating. Officially under 3 weeks to exams.

My end-of-year holiday seems too distant a reality ): at any rate, it's getting shorter and shorter as dates get booked. Already, I am postponing my trip till after my birthday.

Stayed home for Halloween tonight. It's been a cool and lovely evening, curled up on my silk covers with the window open, without the fan on.. Last night's party was.. I don't know. Not fun. Oh well. I didn't really dress up because I wasn't going from home and didn't want to lug around stuff, nor put on crazy make-up upon arrival. Perhaps it's time to go on a social detox again. I've somehow already semi-started anyway.

Harry Potterrrrrrr. WHY don't I have free tickets* ): this close! Gestures with finger (and thumb). Pfft. Shakes fist.

* Actually, it's because Mother fails at any internet related things i.e. grabbing the free tickets waved in her face, only because she couldn't click through to register from her e-mail..... or so she claims. (Also because her secretary was fired and she had no other minions because the stand-in was on sick leave.) And then it ran out. Doh! Sigh. Points for trying, though. Love!
