Lapses In _

To combat my exhaustion and jetlag (yes, who was I kidding but myself??) I have been catching up on season 6 of Grey's Anatomy, which is no longer dark and twisty and therefore not quite as engrossing, but still pretty good-ish. At least it successfully keeps me awake without making me bawl till my eyes swell, so that I can make it for evening class without looking monstrous. (I took a disastrously long afternoon nap the day before and couldn't muster the strength to wake up for evening class or even have dinner.) Class on the other hand...... yawn-inducing, but at least I'm being spoon fed (: the content isn't too bad--it's a mildly useful module. Can't say the same for any of the others, at the moment, since I really have no idea what they're like.

Spent all of today sleeping instead of tying up some loose ends because I didn't feel too good. Can't really pinpoint a cause for it but I'm queasy and bloating, and have diminished appetite. Diminished appetite but an extremely empty stomach that growls and churns ): not a nice feeling.

Wishing I were still in NYC, if only for shopping \: the fact that I can't go for Zachary's Smile's bag sale is killing me! I didn't even manage to pop by their closing sale when I was in the city, when it supposedly had lots of cheap boots in small sizes. Argh. Anyway, this bag sale is totally to die for. I would even flout Mother's recommendation against buying used clothing just for this. After all, it's so cheap that even if she didn't allow me to wear them I could just redistribute them among friends without feeling the pinch!

Pondering moving abroad and out of sheer wandershoppinglust, I have been browsing more lovely stuff from Target, courtesy of their collaboration lines--William Rast x Target was pretty sweet, but I didn't pick up any of the items because I was too small--this time, from Liberty of London x Target and Dolce Vita x Target. They do make me wish I lived near one!!!

I did see some Lanvin x H&M items when I was in NYC, but sad to say they were super disappointing quality-wise, not to mention abused (torn and frayed tulle dresses) and far too big (size 8, hello??). Also not a fan of Victoria's Secret. Somehow both places also coincidentally have very bad service? It made my life easier, though, when nobody wanted to serve me in the stores, because I would simply walk in and out of a store when none of the staff offered to help, even if I wanted something from there. Too bad, their loss! It's fine by me because the US has so many wonderful stores with way better service. Blew quite a bit of money in another store--perhaps because it actually had things that I wanted, but also because the owner was really helpful--and left quite happy, so it's not that I don't have the spending power. (Do I look like I don't? Probably. Haha. But never judge!)

The choices that consumers have in the US is, initially, quite overwhelming--ok, technically this doesn't reduce the number of options available, but it does help you to learn where you enjoy shopping or pinpoint where you would prefer to get a certain product, thereby making it less overwhelming--which is why I say that one would need to stay in a place for extended periods in order to truly make the most of his/her experience. This is better for the wallet, but also better for understanding its culture. Two birds, one stone. Win!

Thinking back on my expenditure (extremely high) I am glad that I didn't buy every single thing I wanted, especially if they were more than what I would normally have forked out. A couple of items here and there exceeded expectations, but they were pretty reasonble. Mostly, the big ticket handpicked-by-yours-truly items were for others and I'm glad they loved them--my aunt got very excited when she saw the big Coach paper bag my mom was carrying, apparently, and squealed when she discovered it was their bag inside. Mother had told her sister only the paper bag was Coach and not its contents. LoL. Anyway, I swooped in on the bag--the only one I saw in the store--as soon as I laid eyes on it. The dyed leather was really lovely and an unusual hue, and the design was perfect inside and out. It was very heavily discounted too, at about 60% + 20% off retail. One of the quickest shopping decisions I ever made. So thankful the other tourists were busy fondling the monogrammed items (so not worth it). HAHA. I had a woman stare at me the entire time I was lined up to pay. Bizarre. Haha. Secretly, I'd wished that my aunt wouldn't like it so that I could have it for myself. Heehee. It was really my perfect bag, but it was good because it will push her to try something a little different yet still her (: she might toting it around this Chinese New Year :D

I have a weakness for timelapse videos, usually employed in documentaries especially when it comes to plant growth ("The Secret Life of Gardens", anyone?), and this video spotted on Gizmodo (another site I like wasting my time on) is no exception:

Mindrelic also has more timelapse videos! Soooo good.
Also, kind of makes you want to get a DSLR, doesn't it? It could only be Canon (;

Youtube is loading so slowly today, annoying \:

Where will this year take us?
