Procrastinating, as usual, has led me here yet again. Hahaha. Spent quite some time surfing camera websites in my hunt for a new one.. (IT fair starts this Thursday, so that'll be a good time to get my hands on some new gear for my upcoming trips..) (I swear the timing coincidence only just crossed my mind because I honestly was just looking for a way of escaping my exam. LoL.)
I've sort of narrowed it down to a Canon Powershot (G12 or S95) or a DSLR. Micro four-thirds don't beat either option, even with their array of options/lenses, because all I really want at this point is full manual control. For the price, I think a compact shooter would be a better starting point than a micro four-third. Wouldn't want to be overwhelmed by all the gobbledygook. I mean, I'm still undecided--if I'm a sucky photographer, I'll probably lose interest soon enough. I can either trade up or continue using the same point-and-shoot on program/auto. Hahaha. DSLRs can come later. I can't afford for such a big-ticket item to turn out to be a waste--it's too risky a splurge, not to mention costly--I need to book my trips. LoL. So it's really between the G12 and S95. Tough fight! \: for the time being, I think my brain says s95 (see what I did there, hehheh) though my heart says G12 (I feel I'd like it more... oh I should shut up already d: heh). The s95 is already a little pricey for me, and the G12 is even more so, but not by too significant an amount.
Anyway, I googled it, as always. My trusty tool (: here are some of the sites which turned up: Ron Martinsen (only a comparison, no verdict yet; also has a good dslr guide for beginners, just search along the right side-bar), Camera Labs, DigitalRev.com, and several threads on Digital Photography Review forums.
If only Singapore had a 30-day return policy. Would really love to have both cameras to play around with from day-to-day. As with tech sites, it would definitely be really nice to have both options at your disposal to do a "reach test"--see which camera I naturally find myself reaching for in different situations. Playing around with them in stores probably isn't going to be an accurate reflection of how I'd use each of them.
Is it time to get over my viewfinder requirement? Does size really matter? Perhaps I should be a less discerning consumer. Hahaha. It's likely I won't even be able to tell which camera's truly better. For starters, the differences in specs are oh so slight. I doubt it's be humanly possible to notice the additional 0.1s lag. Will I really appreciate and enjoy the extra knobs and buttons? Possibly, seeing as I like tweaking settings in a jiffy. Although I currently don't mind spending a little more time, I'm pretty sure I will eventually become more impatient.. but if I don't get accustomed to efficiency, it could be argued that I might still be tolerant of inefficiency. Time to cock an eyebrow d: lol.
SO DIFFICULT. Meowp. OHOHOH, I just realised one of my friends has a G12. Why does she have to be halfway around the world? T_T maybe I can ask her to weigh in.
K, I'm exhausted and void of brain juice. Planning to run an assortment of errands tomorrow.
Love
