I started cutting up my old jeans yesterday...
Went online and searched hard for a tutorial to resize too-big jeans - big all over, not just the waist - before finally striking gold. After googling extensively I managed to find this. Totally useful. I cut it up accordingly, but due to the lack of a functioning sewing machine at home, I'll have to send it to the tailors for simple sewing of the seams. Oddly though, the bottom alignment of the seams is turning out quite problematic: one side aligns when it isn't supposed to. Or maybe the jeans were already wonky to begin with. I might have to cut them off and re-fray them myself. They were already awesomely frayed though. Aye, 'tis a pity. I hope I cut them right and they fit. Otherwise I'd have owned myself -.-
I also cut off the legs of a cheapie pair of jeans I got from Bangkok some years ago, converting them into a pair of shorts. They were pretty poorly made - lousy fabric, nightmarish seams, uneven pockets - but for 10 bucks what would one expect?? Never intended to cut mine up, but the girlfriend who was going to donate hers to me - the same jeans, maybe a size bigger but supposedly "shrunken" - (so that I could secretly cut it up) forgot and it ended up at the Salvation Army instead of my tender loving arms. Dayumm. ANYWAY I took a big gulp, snippity snipped then squashed my new shorts under the 2-seat sofa to get experimental mini cuffs to stay. Eventually I decided they should be trimmed off so now I've got shorts that're not nearly short enough thanks to the pockets that fit really (read: too) snugly around my bottom. Must find a way to salvage them.
Additionally, I have to find something else to do with a too-relaxed pair of blue bootcuts... They're not eligible for the same surgical procedures as above. Hmmm.
I'll sleep on it.
