The 81st Academy Awards

...aka the Oscars... aka the ceremony which hands out statuettes of a man "who has no genitals and is holding a sword"...

It was pretty cool! It's the first time I've bothered to switch on the telly in the morning, caught the "live" telecast and actually was riveted to the show. (But I missed the first hour moping over my silly application.)

My favourite part of the ceremony? Mmm, gotta say it must've been the music and dance performances :D I miss dancing so bad! Caught glimpses of Robert Pattinson here and there (presenting a Romance 2008 segment, behind Mickey Rourke during the Best Actor presentation etc.) and I must say he is omgbroody as ever. But thinking about how talented he is and how much I liked Twilight the movie still left me aflutter.

Alicia Keys presented Best Original Score and Song with Zac Efron, LIKE MAJORLY WE-IRD!!! Whenever anything HSM appeared, I flinched -.- but I must admit that Alicia Keys was AMAZING. Super glowy, in a pretty purple gown that totally looked gorgeous on her, with a dazzling super bright smile. Gosh. If I were... y'know... I'd totally dig her. Hell I am totally crushing on her right now as it is.

Anne Hathaway looked totally pretty too. Queen Latifah wore a great blue dress but I was grossed out by Reese Witherspoon who was also in blue. Another one spotted in blue was Freida Pinto. I must proclaim that it was quite a strange looking one and on a totally random sidenote that she can't dance. Sophia Loren looked terrible (and plasticky) and SJP? Don't even want to think about that.................. Jennifer Aniston and Halle Berry look the same (beautiful) as always, Heidi Klum wasn't too bad and I still don't like Angelina Jolie. The list goes on endlessly.

For the men, I thought Sean Penn was cool. I loved his tux jacket with satin lapels. And also, I think there was quite a senior actor who wore a leather tux jacket. Rad! Hugh Jackman was hot as usual, as was Daniel Craig. Can't say the same for Adrien Brody. I mean, what's up with the facial hair!? And Brad Pitt was super telegenic—everytime the camera panned to him it was like a mini movie—so what's new?

But best of all, Slumdog Millionaire walked away with the wins it so deserved. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which I just caught over the weekend, was way overrated in my opinion. I liked Cate Blanchett, the elements of dance, the sunrise at the lakehouse and the outfits which were very American (although not chronologically fashion correct). Brad Pitt was eye candy—he looked like a Polo Ralph ad—but that was about it.

Now I just have to get my hands on Changeling (recommended by friends), The Reader and Milk. The Dark Knight was awesome but I stilllllll prefer Christian Bale >> Heath Ledger, who won posthumously. I thought his parents were sweet, but his sister was kind of queer. But I give her the benefit of the doubt—she must miss him so so much.

I'm sorry I don't have photos and this is just a long ramble of words, but I'm sure you'll find awesome articles on gofugyourself soon enough :D

Update: gofugyourself has indeed lived up to expectations. You can see the aforementioned Pinto dress and others. Heidi Klum's dress turned out to be a bit of a dealbreaker (when I saw her she was sitting down). Oh well, I guess you can't have your cake and eat it too!
