My Body's Saying Let's Go, But My Heart Is Saying No

Forgot to mention last time that I got a new router (; yay!

Alice in Wonderland (3D) wasn't that good. While it wasn't nearly as bad in the 3D aspect as Avatar, the film itself left much to be desired. I felt like it was rushed, not properly developed. Most gripes could be largely attributed to the non-existent pacing--everything seemed to move at the same speed when parts could have been afforded more/less time. Johnny Depp was good, but I felt he didn't have much room to play around. Characters could have been more well developed all around.. There was so much more potential. Perhaps Tim Burton was restricted by Disney? Hmmm. Costumes-wise, I didn't really think much of it either. Pah! Overall it was a bad experience, definitely not worth the weekend price. Didn't help that the sound was screwed up by Cathay |:

Anyway, I did spend most of yesterday chilling spacing out. Had dinner at Domani after picking up my beloved E75/sending in my E51 again. Haven't mentioned this place before, but it's really quite a tidy little secret of mine. Heehee. It's where Pasta Cafe used to be at B2 of Ngee Ann City, opposite Mos Burger. I've been there twice so far, trying fairly different things each time.

Yesterday, I had the penne tricolore (SGD 12.50++) and my brother ordered a pre-fixed course of escabeche, mushroom salad and chicken cutlet (SGD 26.00++). For dessert, we shared a brownie combination (SGD 6.00++). The penne was a carb overload, very decent portions and tasty too (: the creamy/cheesy part wasn't too cloying, the basil pesto was mild and the tomato section was pleasant. Biiiig plate of pasta, not for the weak of stomach. The escabeche was a cold vegetable dish with generous chunks of salmon.. Not my type of dish, but 'twas alright. The mushroom salad was better the first time round I had it, but I think it's largely because it comprises the set versus the a la carte version first sampled at non-peak hour (midweek evening). The chicken cutlet was the star... When it arrived, warm waves of comforting bready smell wafted towards me. It was all I could do not to ravage my brother's food (he was away when it was served). It was crispy on the outside, but tender and moist on the inside. It wasn't overcooked and was a gigantic piece of chicken meat covering 80% of a large plate, about 0.8cm thick? MMMM. Even my brother said he was full. Imagine that! Anyway, on to the brownie. It was covered in a rich, thick chocolate layer on top. The "cake" portion was slightly chewy and it came with very nutty-tasting crushed peanuts and generous dollops of whipped cream and a scoop of vanilla ice-cream. In all, most satisfying. However, all feelings of fullness evaporated when the table next to ours cut their lamb steak (they had some couscous dish). OMG SO FRAGRANT AND JUICY AND TENDER AND COOKED PERFECTLY. Brother and I had to make a hasty escape. Hahahaha.

The first time I went, I sampled the bruschetta collection. Ranking them in roughly descending order: mushroom, prosciutto and melon, mozzarella and tomato, smoked salmon cream cheese. Mother ate the prawn & mango so I don't know what it's like, but she said it's ok/not bad, I think. I had the soup of the day which was pumpkin (yesterday's was minestrone, didn't order because I'm not a fan). The soup could be better, but it's only SGD3.50++ for a fairly large bowl. The mushroom salad (a la carte SGD 5.50++) was really filling and good. The mushrooms were freshly sauteed and piping hot, and the balsamic vinaigrette was good. Vegetables were crunchy and clean and good-sized. Don't you hate it when they cut it up too small or not at all? Reallllly generous with the mushrooms in the salad, I think some girls would be full on the salad alone. Mother and I shared a carbonara (SGD 14.50++) and a hawaiian pizza (SGD 15.00++), both of which were ok. The carbonara wasn't too thick and the pizza was pretty tasty. The pizza was surprisingly big, so I think 2 girls could share 1. I was really full after that because Mother didn't eat much and I finished everything. I'm under the impression we had dessert, but it's not in my receipt... Mother might've ordered a cake and it was probably ok (:

Final word: it's affordable, and even big eaters can definitely be satisfied. I spent about 28 per head, you could probably spend less. Hehe. Service was good, too, on both occasions (peak and non-peak). Domani is managed by the Pokka group who also runs my favourite Tonkichi (yum, cheese tonkatsu and chawanmushi!).

While I'm on food, let me also mention Brotzeit, which I had at 313 @ Somerset a couple of weeks ago with a girlfriend. Been wanting to try this place for a while, since I'd heard good reviews of the Raffles City and Vivocity outlets. We ordered a bread thingy (Brotzeitflade Huhn, SGD 16.50++) and pork sausages (Nürnberger, SGD 17.50++). Both were pretty decent. I liked the mashed potatoes and sauerkraut which accompanied the sausages. Total damage came up to SGD 36.00. Not too bad! Pretty decent portions, surprisingly filling. Or... it could be that my friend didn't eat that much and I finished most of it (this sounds familiar).

Whew, that's alot of food. Unfortunately, no photos. Hahahaha (: you know me, always too hungry to shoot. Teehee.

Work time (:

XOXO
