Thank God for the rain delay, or I would not have caught the ending of the beautiful match between Djoko and him. 'Tis fate. What else can I say?
IT MUST BE LOVE.
Here's the full story:
Just yesterday, I didn't dare check the official website for the match outcome. It was as bad as checking my own exam results.... Yeah, that bad. No kidding. Then I mustered up the courage after a bad night's sleep and discovered that they didn't even play at all due to inclement weather.
This morning, I bit the bullet and checked right away when I was still groggy (that was part of the battle strategy, so that if he lost (impossible! d:) I would know, but wouldn't be able to fully digest it till later, when I would no longer be shocked). I stared at the screen, wondering why the news had not yet changed on the front page, and then it hit me: the IBM slamtracker button said "LIVE SCORES" instead of "LATEST SCORES". Immediately, I clicked on it and saw that it was the fourth and final set--I totally knew it was going to happen! (Come on, 5-1, seriously? Nadal would never let what was so firmly within his grasp slip away).
I jumped up and ran to the TV, crash-landing on the sofa while pointing the remote, heart pounding wildly within my chest. My pulse raced with excitement as he prepared to serve out the match, as I watched him make history. 15-0, 30-0, 30-15, 30-30, 40-30. CHAMPIONSHIP POINT! I silently prophesied in my head that Djokovic would certainly self-destruct, and he did. He hit it wide and Nadal fell flat on his back on the court and rolled over sobbing with happiness, as I pumped my fist in elation.
Career grand slam at 24--you totally deserve it. GOAT? I think so, no need to wait for 8 more. Such an inspiration, you are. I have never doubted you <3
Sighing With Relief
XOXO
