Ended up not wearing my kooky outfit planned for Monday. Opted for comfort instead and threw on a 100% new outfit - Topshop toga tunic and sheer cardigan and Zara flats - before running out of the house. Lunch at Din Tai Fung was good, satisfied my craving for xiaolongbaos. Also, tried on a ton of stuff (even when they were oversized) just for fun, including Christopher Kane for Topshop bandage dress - neon yellow!!! - and Unique :D also popped by Sephora to look at some makeup. Such bad service. Tut tut.
Dinner at Kiraku at Raffles Place was disappointing. I daresay Akashabu at Kallang Leisurepark is better, but Brother said it's a close fight. Anyway, the sashimi was.... fail. And the shabu shabu was also a fail, considering that it was wagyu beef and kurobuta (pork). The sesame dip was plain awful. The only plus was that they were pretty generous with the vege and they did offer udon at the end of the meal, but Brother decided not to go for it. The restaurant was really quite empty and service was alright. Didn't see the damage done because it was Brother's treat, but it's not cheap. Oh well. Wouldn't have known till we tried!
Ran more errands on Tuesday - the lipliner I wanted was out of stock, boo ): - then swam in the evening since my dinner plans fell through. The weather has been lovely. But I fell sick because the wind was too cold though the sun was shining brightly. Took a shower before entering the pool but ended up shivering by the poolside for 5 minutes, wrapping myself up in a towel and calling my mom to consult her for a further 10 minutes, then deciding the take the plunge when the wind stopped -.- and after I was done, I took a cold shower because there was no hot water. All in all quite silly. Now I'm still running a slight fever.
Finally got the opportunity to try out Vanilla Pod on Wednesday night. The environment was really quite nice, but for a table of irritants - the only other people in the restaurant - who watched videos on a laptop and frequently took smoke breaks. Service was not too bad. For starters, I had the Green Peas with Ham soup. Started out pretty strange tasting but the consistency was pretty nice. The serving looked a little small but it was surprisingly filling. Also shared the Pan-Seared Canadian Scallops. Pretty fresh, although I would've liked it a little more cooked. For mains, I had the Wagyu Beef Cheek and Tongue, the former was pretty delightful but the latter was definitely too salty. The meats were served on a bed of mashed potato that was smooth and slightly buttery, and came with beans which left no impression. After that, for dessert I shared a Valrhona Lava Chocolate Cake which wasn't too bad either. Again, I didn't get a look at the bill since it was a treat, but I think for the prices off hungrygowhere and by my own estimation, it probably cost around SGD 50 to 60-ish per head (without wine). My friend had the Mushroom Soup, which he said was good (this would be the second time he's had it) and the Red Snapper for mains, which came on a bed of mash as well. I didn't try any of his food because I feared I was sick.
Abandoned plans to go to the Night Safari after that because it was simply too overwhelmingly crowded ): my painful head couldn't take it.
Caught Broadway Beng last night, it was really quite funny. Admittedly I think Brother definitely appreciated it more than I. It was much more to his taste than mine, but 'twas nevertheless humorous. The local drama scene is certainly good stuff indeed. While Royston and Selena didn't make an appearance on stage, Adrian Pang was in the audience. Saw him on the way out of the theatre. Made up my mind to catch the next Dim Sum Dollies show whenever it is (: finally met Brother's new girlfriend, not too shabby I must say. Very sweet. Mmm. Also, she wore a dress (one of my new Mango dresses) that I nearly wore out too. AWKWARD FASHION MOMENT.
Chicago - to watch or not to watch???
Found a dress from Zara online... will go check it out sometime soon. Might just splurge again, although it's not very expensive. Bah! So much for resolving to not buy anymore stuff till I go to Bangkok.
Spent the past week reading Franz Kafka. Translated literature has never been my favourite because 'flavour' is often lost along the way. However, I must say that Kafka's writings are so vivid and often true-to-life that they speak to me. But this can't said for all his pieces. Many times have I had to re-read a piece in order to grasp it properly. (Doesn't help if you have the persistent headache I got for the worse part of the week.) Kafka is not something you can easily get through quickly, but it is surely something to savour.
Have not had the chance to commence spring cleaning - my head throbs everytime I move - or do up outfit posts - my sense of aesthetics is dulled because of the fever so I can't doodle or take pictures. It's really only been about a week since exams ended but it feels like forever. It also feels like I've done alot when actually I haven't done a single thing. Still so much to do!!! Buy CDs and gifts for Christmas, have catch-up lunches with people who're interning... Well, at least while I'm ill I can start on my new acquisition - Fables! Additionally, Outlander will arrive in 4 to 6 weeks time (: andddd I spied FlashForward on my brother's table. Heeheehee.
While many of my friends are away - some on exchange, some at a camp - it makes me realise that I do crave their company no matter how much of a loner I think I am. School life will really suck once they go overseas ):
Under instructions to get proper rest, drink more isotonic fluids and do light exercise. How ironic.
xx
P.S. I received my Jap results - which I have been trying to avoid by getting Mother to check if I passed without telling me my grades - or rather, I got ambushed in a letter from the Japanese Cultural Society. Definitely disappointed because I didn't get the flying colours I know I could have. It's no consolation that I did well even when I didn't study, nor is it comforting that I still did over a 100+ places better than Mother (so she claims). I know I was very careless/nervous and could have done way better even if I didn't study any more than I did. Bah! But on to Advanced next year... or not. Mmm.
