Delve Into Velvet

Been a while since I've managed to sit down proper. Ran out of the house on Friday when I'd heard that the Uniqlo x Velvet collection had hit the stores. (I'd randomly decided to call them on Friday morning to check.) The Japanese staff was most helpful--I was blind as a bat--in locating my most-wanted section. Zoooooom.. I was there and grabbed a whole armful of clothes to go try on. Queued several consecutive rounds at the fitting room and then did a few more rounds to quell the indecisive longing after a return visit to the racks to dig out more stuff.. The clothes didn't really look like they did in the photos I'd seen online. Firstly, the quality wasn't quite what I'd expected, but I should have known better if they were to be priced so cheaply. Secondly, the only sizes available were M and L. Would have definitely liked an S or XS better. HOWEVER, the best surprise was that THEY WERE ON SALE AT SGD 19.90 down from 29.90 on the very same day it was launched here. How Awesome-with-a-capital-A is that, seriously??? Yet I still deliberated for a very long time, with a lunch break in between and more of trying on the same clothes and switching out some choices for others. Came away with 4 dresses--a green double-pocket tank, a pink tube and open-shouldered t-shirt dresses in brown and black. I know right?? Super boring. All of them were plain and oversized-baggy, but I love them all the same :D

Anyway, best company ever! (((((: x a bajillion. Shopping alone is really horrendous because you have to make soo many trips up and down (if you're me) to fetch all the clothes you want to try in different batches--a most horrible experience especially with limited stock of your size on the racks--and no second opinion on colours or designs. Totally inefficient in every aspect!

Had a long leisurely lunch at Tarafuku at 313 while mulling over whether I should buy the dresses--quality and fit were pretty big issues for me--which is pretty decent. I think it belongs to the same group as Tampopo of kurobuta tonkatsu and ramen fame, but with more emphasis on seafood in this restaurant. It was pretty decent. Ramen tasted the same as at Tampopo but the sets were pretty filling. I ordered the deluxe set (SGD 19.90++)and didn't manage to finish it (way past lunchtime + snacks = bad) because it had a lot of rice and ingredients. Was a little bit of a bitchy customer because I didn't want tamago, which was already available in my set, or ebi to replace the kani in my sashimi. I didn't want anything else but eventually settled for scallop after pressing the staff for a discount which they couldn't give. Everything was generally acceptable. Service was above average, to be fair; and food was ok. I think it's a rather average restaurant on the whole, but like it's sibling Tampopo, it should appeal to the majority of Singaporeans. UOB has a ten percent discount! (Still feeling sore about cancelling my UOB Ladies and missing out on the 4 dollar discount to Full Monty.)

Had Red Mango froyo at *Scape. It's really one of the nicer froyos I've had in a long time, if not the best. It literally tastes like frozen yogurt, the good kind that I like from Yoplait, but the texture is nice and soft but thick and somewhat creamy. Anyway, the prices are super reasonable. SGD 4.50 for a medium cup that makes all other froyo servings pale in comparison. Really quite ginormous. Good enough to share between 2. Good variety of toppings are available including mochi, which looks very pretty and is quite pleasant. Anyway, they currently have a 1-for-1 promotion--yogurt only, toppings separate--until 30th June 2010.

Am semi-planning an impromptu trip to Hong Kong.. Hopefully it will be good (: am fine if it doesn't materialise, but will be happy to go as well. I have a feeling KL probably won't happen. Shrugs. I've many other things to do anyway.

Speaking of which, I should choose my subjects NAO. Deadline in 13r1r3 hours and I know this is one deadline which is a true deadline.

Update you on more of my weekend later! (:
