It was in the tabloids yesterday (ok not really, but the New Paper can hardly be called news-y) that there are possibly gangs hanging around the 'hood. For real. Yes, they have struck even closer to home. Last, they were ten minutes drive away. Now, they're ten minutes stroll away. I don't know how accurate this is, because I didn't read it myself, but Mother said that the incident involved some guy who was just going his way when he bumped into someone, likely unintentionally, which resulted in a swarm of people beating him up. The latest victim of a gang attack, Mr Balamurugan Nadarajan, is an auxiliary police offcer.

The 26-year-old was pounced upon by seven young men after one of them bumped into him. He was beaten so badly that he's now warded at the National University Hospital with suspected multiple injuries, including a nose fracture.

Less than four hours later yesterday, Mr K Shanmugam, Minister for Home Affairs and Law, said street gangsters fight over trivial matters such as accidental contact, staring incidents and words.

A police spokesman said that investigations are ongoing.

Off-duty auxiliary cop suffers fractures in 'assault by seven'

AN AUXILIARY police officer says he was assaulted by seven people in an unprovoked attack in Jalan T*** W*** while he was off duty on Tuesday.

Mr Balamurugan Nadarajan, 26, is in hospital with two facial fractures and a bad headache. He has difficulty speaking and cannot chew properly.

He told The Straits Times he had been on his way to a supermarket near his home when he met the group, which included a teenage girl.

Mr Nadarajan, who walks with a pronounced limp, said the group pointed to his leg and laughed; three of them then deliberately bumped into him as they passed by, and then the assault began.

'They asked me what my problem was, and I replied that I had no problem, but they whacked me anyway,' he said, adding that he was kicked and punched until he fell and passed out.

Police confirmed receiving a call on Tuesday about an injured person near Block 157 Jalan T*** W***, but said preliminary investigations indicated that only one man assaulted Mr Nadarajan.

His sister Vicky, a 24-year-old immigration consultant, said their parents are distressed to be hit with another round of medical bills, as it is only three months since Mr Nadarajan had recovered enough from a motorcycle accident six years ago to return to work. It was that accident which left him with a limp and a steel bar implanted in his left leg.

Mr Nadarajan wanted to go to the police to identify one of his attackers last night, but his doctors told him it would have to wait.

He said: 'I'm not scared. I want to identify them. These gangsters have no regard for the law.'

On a much less sombre note...... Somebody confiscate my laptop, please? I spent yesterday window-shopping online--whereas I can skilfully maneuver around actual, physical shopping in gloriously, enticingly lit malls--and browsed tens of sites with hundreds of items costing thousands of dollars. Anyway, the entire point is I was lured into whiling my day away because of the Black Friday sales. I found quite a number of things that are really quite worthwhile, and am struggling very hard against spending..

The Adidas Original X Sennheiser HD25-1 II headphones I found were going for USD 165 down from 280, which is even cheaper than a normal pair of HD25-1 II headphones.. I've been stalking them for ever, but I don't think I'll ever fork out the money for such sexy headphones ): LSDA1116 till 5th December 2010; or dealsofamerica for 40% off

Then there're the Alexandra Herchcovitch X Melissa black and white jelly "Joy" oxfords which I've been hesitating over. For more than a year, I might add. (The story goes that when I first saw them they weren't on sale and were still affordable, but I refused to get them. A few months passed before I decided to go back, but the colour was out of size. Boo. The gold ones were available, but I decided against them because I wasn't too keen on the colour. Later, I changed my mind but they were gone too. Then when I was in Hong Kong, I came across some!!! And on sale!! But brother dissuaded me from buying them. So I gave up on them when I came back.) The last pair in my size. Really now? Again?? Fate, you can't keep doing this to me! But honestly, they're really a steal at USD 40 down from 120, and possibly even cheaper with 25% off. Ahh, all the sample sales showing up in my feeds are making me wish I were done last Saturday, in which case, I could would be there for everything ): it makes me feel really awful to keep wanting to ask (but I haven't) my friends to shop for me when they don't have money; or to ask to ship things to them that I might not collect (thiiiiis close to). Pfft )))))): dreadful.

As Brother says, "America: definitely the place to be." How come holiday season was never this hard last time???? Oh, woe.

Definitely want to hold out and go thrifting when I'm done, but it's soooo hard ): I'm an absolutely frightful little girl, ergh. All this abstinence is driving me crazy!!!! You can bet that I'll go a teensy bit stark. raving. mad. when I'm doing my birthday month shopping. Thankfully, there're birthday discounts. And at least now I don't have to pay for my once-a-month-haircuts. Muahaha!

Btw, it appears I'm just a wee bit ahead of my time. Does that make me trendy/trendsetter? Ok, more like, my hair stylist. Boyish hair, anyone? (;
